Travel Insurance for Natural Disasters

Submitted by webellian on Fri, 11/10/2023 - 09:57
Travel Insurance for Natural Disasters

Natural disasters are an inevitable fact of life and although Insure&Go cannot prevent them, we can make sure you are covered in the unfortunate event that one should occur before or during your holidays.

Natural disasters can occur with little or no warning and their impacts on your travel plans as well as your health could end up costing you dearly should you find yourself without quality travel insurance for natural disasters. They are just one more reason why travel insurance is so important.

Protect yourself from natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, volcanic eruptions, atypical cyclonic storms, and other extraordinary natural phenomenon. Having quality travel insurance with natural disaster coverage means you could recover some of the costs associated with your travels such as cancelling your trip, cutting your trip short, or emergency medical expenses due to the occurrence of a natural disaster.

Most Common Questions
Do you provide cover for Natural Disasters?

Yes, we offer cover for additional emergency expenses you may incur as a result of a natural disaster provided you pay an additional fee to be covered. This additional fee to be covered for these events is applicable under all levels of cover and the amount you can claim varies depending on the level of cover you choose. Please note that if you do not pay this fee you will not be covered for natural disaster. This optional add-on can be selected at the end of the quotation just before making a payment online or if doing it over the phone our agent will ask you if you wish to add it to your policy. Whilst you may not be covered for natural disasters if you fail to add on the optional add-on, you will still be covered for medical expenses incurred as a result of a natural disaster.

Am I covered for a volcano eruption?

You get unlimited medical cover automatically, however, you are not covered for cancellations/cutting your trip short/emergency expenses or missed cruise departure unless you purchase our add-on coverage for natural disasters.

You are only covered for disasters unforeseen to the public at the time of purchase. If there is a known natural disaster, you will see this displayed within the optional add-on in the last step of the journey. However, you are covered for medical expenses, regardless, due to a natural disaster, as long as medically necessary and emergency.

How does cancellation cover work?

Cancellation cover starts on the date of purchase of Silver and Gold.

Cancellation is covered if the insured cannot travel due to medical reasons, death of a relative, an unknown natural disaster, serious damage to the home in Australia and so on. In any such event, the insured can cancel and claim for the pre-booked expenses lost on the trip.

I am overseas right now – can I buy, change or upgrade a policy?

You need to be in Australia at the time of purchasing your insurance. If you are overseas, we are unable to offer you new or different insurance. You may be eligible to extend the dates of your existing cover, so shoot us an email and find out.

Travel Insurance for Natural Disasters

*Price derived from a single trip of 5 days, Individual, age 30, to New Zealand, Pacific& Bali region. Cover for pre-existing medical may require an extra premium.

How and When Does Travel Insurance Provide Cover for Natural Disasters?

The most important thing when it comes to natural disaster travel insurance is to make sure you have your policy in place before the natural disaster occurs. Once a natural disaster event has taken place it will be too late for you to take out coverage.

To make a claim due to a natural disaster, you must have purchased Insure&Go’s Natural Disaster policy upgrade option and the option must be shown on your policy schedule.

Insure&Go makes it easy to obtain travel insurance quotes where you can compare our three different levels of cover. You can organise coverage for trip cancellation or having to cut your trip short if a natural disaster occurs and you have purchased the right level of cover with a natural disaster add-on included.

Depending on your level of cover, you may also be covered for additional emergency expenses. These are expenses you incur after departure that are over and above what you had originally budgeted to pay if your trip is disrupted or you are required to return to your home in Australia because of a natural disaster. These expenses can include things such as accommodation, meals, and travelling costs.

Note that medical cover due to any natural disaster is automatically included in all international policies without purchasing this policy upgrade.

What is Covered?

For natural disasters that were unknown at the time of purchase and where you have taken out the natural disaster coverage upgrade option, Insure&Go will provide the following coverage:

  • Cancelling Trip Before Departure: If you have to cancel your trip due to a natural disaster, we will cover your pre-paid travel, visas, accommodation, and meal expenses, which you cannot be reimbursed elsewhere, as well as costs of pre-paid excursions, tours and activities. (Note: Only applies to our Silver and Gold levels of cover)
  • Cutting Your Trip Short: If cutting your trip short is necessary and unavoidable as a result of a natural disaster, coverage you choose could include pre-paid travel, accommodation, and meal expenses as well as pre-paid costs of excursions, tours, and activities. (Note: Only applies to our Silver and Gold levels of cover)
  • Additional Emergency Expenses: We will pay your reasonable and necessary additional travel costs, incurred after departure due to a natural disaster that disrupts your trip or requires you to return to your home in Australia. You may be able to claim travel delay expenses for necessary food and accommodation costs related to a natural disaster under this coverage.
  • Medical Expenses: Note that unlimited overseas medical cover is automatically included in all international policies without purchasing the natural disaster policy upgrade. We consider all pre-existing medical conditions and provide quality travel insurance for seniors up to 100 years of age.
  • Avalanche Cover: Take out our additional Winter Sports Coverage to cover you in the event of an avalanche. We will pay up to the amount shown in the Table of benefits for the necessary and reasonable extra travel and accommodation expenses that you need to pay overseas if you are prevented from arriving at or leaving your booked ski resort during your trip for more than 12 hours from the scheduled arrival or departure time because of an avalanche.

Should you have any questions in regards to what natural disasters are covered or any other travel insurance-related queries, you can read our Product Disclosure Statements or contact one of our helpful and knowledgeable staff who will be happy to assist you.

What Isn’t Covered?

  • Purchasing Travel Insurance After a Natural Disaster Occurs: To make a claim due to a natural disaster, you must have purchased this policy upgrade option and the option must be shown on your policy. Note that there is no coverage for costs incurred relating to a natural disaster if an event is already known prior to purchasing a policy.
  • Overlooking Government Travel Warnings: It pays to check current government travel warnings and discuss any concerns over travel insurance coverage with one of our knowledgeable Insure&Go staff so you don’t find yourself abroad without qualifying for proper coverage.
  • Bad Weather: Natural disaster coverage does not cover you for bad weather such as rain, wind, or normal storms which may put a damper on your travel plans.
  • Choosing to Not Travel: Just because a natural disaster has occurred in your chosen travel destination does not mean you will be unable to travel. If travel to and from your chosen destination is still possible you may not be covered for simply not wanting to go due to a lack of facilities or activities available due to a natural disaster.
  • Policy Limits & Reasonable Expenses: Be aware of your policy’s limits when it comes to coverage. You will be responsible for any costs incurred which go above the allocated sum insured for a certain event. Likewise, you will only be covered for reasonable expenses you acquire from delays or interruptions caused by natural disasters, so book accommodation and travel accordingly or check to make sure your expenses will be covered under your policy.

Please note that these benefits are a summary, so please see our PDS for full terms & conditions.

Natural Disaster Tips When It Comes to Travelling

Natural disasters can occur anywhere at any time, so it is essential to be prepared. Just this year several large hurricanes have hit the United States, floods have ravaged Europe including the Czech Republic and Greece, and earthquakes have rattled the Middle East, South Korea, and Mexico.

Here are some tips when it comes to natural disasters and travel:

  • Purchase your Insure&Go policy with natural disaster coverage as soon as you finalise your travel plans. Natural disasters can occur at any time without warning and you will only be covered for events that are unknown at the time of purchasing your policy.
  • Certain countries or regions of the world are more prone to certain natural disasters. Research what disasters may be common in your chosen destination.
  • Consider the time of year when it comes to travelling to your chosen destination. Cyclones, tornadoes, and other weather-related natural disasters often have predictable seasons in which they occur more frequently.
  • Familiarise yourself with your chosen destination’s emergency contact numbers, evacuation plans, and safety procedures in the event of a natural disaster. Insure&Go provides its customers with the world’s largest 24-hour emergency assistance should you need to contact us during your travels.

Pregnancy Travel Insurance

Submitted by webellian on Fri, 11/10/2023 - 09:52
Pregnancy Travel Insurance

Insure&Go makes it easy to obtain pregnancy travel insurance for expectant mothers who wish to travel.

Protecting yourself with travel insurance is incredibly important, especially when you are pregnant. Insure&Go offers one of the most comprehensive policies when it comes to pregnancy travel insurance, covering you if you are expecting a single child or multiple babies who were conceived naturally or via reproductive services.

What we Cover

Here at Insure&Go, we provide emergency childbirth coverage:

  • Up until your 30th week, for a single-child pregnancy
  • Up until your 20th week, for a multiple-child pregnancy

Cover for premature birth (more than 10 weeks before the expected delivery date, or 18 weeks if you know you are having more than one baby) includes the costs related to the birth and post-birth medical care; unfortunately at this stage, we don’t offer any coverage for your baby.

Any medical expenses related to specific pregnancy-related complications (listed below) are covered even after the cut-off mark for childbirth coverage.

You will also have trip cancellation and pre-paid expenses coverage for medically certified pregnancy-related cancellations (under Silver and Gold policies). This means you are covered in the event you need to cancel your trip if you become pregnant after we have sold you your policy, and you will be more than 30 weeks pregnant (or 20 weeks if you are expecting more than one baby) at the start of or during your trip. You are also covered if your doctor advises that you are not fit to travel because you are suffering from complications of pregnancy and childbirth.

Any claim that comes from pregnancy or childbirth must have confirmation from a qualified medical practitioner which states the claim is due to complications of pregnancy and childbirth. Accepted limited complications are explicitly listed in your PDS.

These benefits are a summary, so please see our PDS for full terms & conditions.

Travel Insurance for Pre-existing Medical Conditions | InsureandGo Australia

Submitted by webellian on Fri, 11/10/2023 - 09:36
Travel Insurance for pre-existing Medical Conditions

We know not all of us can enjoy perfect health, and that many travellers may currently have medical conditions. That’s why, as part of our award-winning cover, we consider all pre-existing medical conditions for possible cover, subject to approval, and provide you with competitively priced travel insurance for pre-existing medical conditions to protect your holiday.

What is a pre-existing medical condition?

A pre-existing medical condition is any diagnosed issue. This is something you or an insured person has had in the last 5 years. It includes any medical advice, treatment, or medication received for that condition.

You must declare it because it is part of your medical history. This is true even if your condition is under control with medication, inactive, or treated.

Acceptance of a pre-existing medical condition will depend on each traveller’s individual situation, and many conditions may even be covered free of charge.

Our quick and easy online questionnaire can determine instantly whether your pre-existing condition can be covered with no need for upfront medical assessments or certificates when you purchase.

To obtain a quote online, simply fill in the quote box above. This allows you to compare our products and quotes.

The last part you’ll see is the medical screening section, which only takes a few minutes to fill in online. While declaring the condition, you may be asked simple questions about it, such as treatments you’ve received, your age when the condition began, medications you’ve taken, or recent episodes of your condition. Answering these questions carefully and honestly will determine if your condition can be covered.

Most Common Questions
Do you cover pre-existing medical conditions?

Yes, we consider all pre-existing medical conditions in all of our travel insurance products, except for our Domestic Travel Insurance. To determine whether your condition will be covered, you will need to complete the Medical Assessment during the purchase process online or over the phone.

Do you provide cover for a diabetic condition?

Every medical situation is different, so this is not one of those yes or no questions. However, you are able to declare your diabetic condition through our medical screening tool, which is available online (when you get a quote) or over the phone, and don’t worry, no medical certification is required. Your diabetic condition may be covered, may not be covered, or require an additional fee to cover. Don’t forget you can contact us if you have any doubts, or if you simply need our consultant to help you with the process.

Read the PDS before making any decision.

Do you provide cover for existing mental condition?

To find out whether your mental condition is covered, you need to complete our Medical Assessment online or over the phone with our Customer Services Team on 1300 552 701

I have an elderly parent, am I covered if I have to cancel my trip due something happening to my parents?

With our Silver and Gold policies, we do offer cover for cancelling your trip prior to departure due to the unforeseeable accident, illness or injury of one of your parents. Your parents must live in Australia and be in Australia at the time, and this cover does not include any cover for pre-existing medical conditions of non-travelling relatives.

Do you cover flight delays after departure?

Under the Insure&Go Silver and Gold levels of cover, we will reimburse the cost of your necessary additional meals and accommodation expenses, if during a trip, any individual leg of your trip, is delayed for more than 12 hours.

The amount you can claim varies depending on the level of cover that you have purchased with us. Please refer to the policy wording documents for more information

I have pre-existing medical conditions. Can I get cover for these on my policy too?

InsureandGo does not automatically include cover for any pre-existing medical conditions. All conditions can be considered via a medical questionnaire that you can either complete online or through the call centre. Please contact us if you would like to complete the questionnaire over the phone.

I already have a policy but I've recently been diagnosed with a new medical condition. What do I do?

If you already have a policy^ and there has been a change in your medical status, you need to inform InsureandGo via email or speak to our Customer Services Team on 1300 552 701 before you travel. Please keep in mind we have the right to change the conditions of your policy^ in line with the change of risk and depending on your condition. We may include or decline the cover, or charge an extra cost.

Is there a Senior’s travel insurance policy I need to purchase?

No. Simply select the trip type that best describes your journey.

Does your insurance cover damage to a rental car?

Our Gold policies cover your rental car excess up to $8,000 for International policies and up to $7,500 on Domestic policies. However, you need to make sure that the rental car is insured (confirmed by the rental company), as we do not pay for full damages to a rental car, only your excess. Please note, that motorbikes are excluded.

Do you cover osteoporosis?

Pre-existing conditions are not automatically covered unless declared and accepted by us. You need to disclose all conditions for which you have taken advice, treatments or medications in the last 5 years. To do this you need to go through a medical questionnaire. The process can be completed on the website or over the phone. You need to list all the conditions and answer the questions. Depending on your response we may offer or decline the cover.

Travel Insurance for pre-existing Medical Conditions

Pregnancy and Travel

Travelling with extra special cargo on your next holiday? Great news, travel insurance cover from InsureandGo includes pregnancy cover. Insure&Go gives you cover up until your 30th week for single-child pregnancy and until your 20th week for multiple-child pregnancies. Please note, pregnancy doesn’t have to be declared in our medical questionnaire unless you are experiencing pregnancy complications.

We cover the expenses of the birth for 30 weeks (single babies) and 20 weeks (multiple babies). We also cover certain pregnancy-related complications (listed in our product disclosure statement) for up to 30th weeks.

Unfortunately, at this stage, we do not cover neo-natal care, so please keep this in mind if you choose to travel while pregnant.

Pre-Existing Medical Condition Not Covered?

We aim to cover as many pre-existing medical conditions as possible. However, in the unfortunate circumstance that your condition does not qualify, you can still purchase travel insurance.

Refusal of coverage for your condition will only void claims that arise from your refused pre-existing condition. You will still be covered for any medical claims that are unrelated to your refused pre-existing medical condition, as well as all the usual benefits of our travel insurance policies. These benefits include baggage cover up to $15,000, travel delay expense cover up to $3,000, and trip cancellation cover (Available on Silver and Gold levels).

Please be aware, medical expenses are not covered when travelling within Australia (Onshore).

Family Travel Insurance

Submitted by webellian on Fri, 11/10/2023 - 07:05
Family Travel Insurance Family Travel Insurance

Travelling with children in tow is an adventure full of priceless family bonding and memory-making. When considering children’s welfare on holidays, travel insurance can take on a completely new level of importance. We also understand that travelling with children is expensive enough, so if you’re planning to holiday with your children or grandchildren (who are under 18), we cover them at the same level of cover as you (except a lower compensation limit in the event of death) at no extra charge*.

If you travel as a couple, then you are entitled to a travel insurance discount of 10% (automatically calculated during the purchase process). Make sure you select ‘couple or family’ to take advantage of your discount. We define a ‘couple’ as two people over the age of 18 who live together at the time of purchasing the insurance and are either: husband and wife or fiancé and fiancée or de-facto partners of either sex.

When selecting travelling as a family, please keep in mind that all family members must leave and return to Australia together.

Most Common Questions
Is there a Family travel insurance policy I need to purchase?

Simply select ‘Family’ in the quote box and you will be able to add all members. Then select the trip type that best describes your journey.

My child turns 18 while we’re overseas, does cover stop for them if they don’t have their own policy?

The age of the dependent child is determined at the point of purchase, not travel. This means, that even if the child turns 18 the day after purchasing a policy, he/she is still covered for free as a dependant with the same level of coverage as the primary policyholder.

Is a couple two family members travelling together?

We define ‘couple’ the same way that it is defined in Australian law: either two people who are married to each other, or two people in a de facto relationship who have been living together for six months or longer.

Do you cover nieces and nephews for free on the same policy?

The Family/Couple traveller option is only valid for parents and grandparents and their dependent children (under 18) travelling together. If this is not the case, you are welcome to be on the same policy, however, you will need to select the Individuals option.

If we are not leaving together can we still be covered under the same policy?

In order for everyone to be covered under the same policy, all parties need to be leaving and returning to Australia together, and spending at least 50% of the trip together. If this is not the case, you will need to have separate policies for these dates. Children need to be supervised by an adult during the trip.

How many children can I insure on my travel insurance policy?

You may cover an unlimited number of dependent children* on your travel insurance policy at no additional premium cost if you have selected the Single or Family Cover Policy Type. The Couple Cover Policy Type does not provide any cover for dependent children. Note - “dependent children” is defined as “Your financially dependent children or grandchildren (including fostered or adopted children or grandchildren) who are under 18 years of age and who are named on the Policy Schedule.”

Family Travel Insurance

*Children (including fostered or adopted children) travelling with either their parents or grandparents will be provided with travel insurance cover for no additional cost (any pre-existing medical conditions may incur an additional charge). This is provided they are under 18 years of age, named on the Policy Schedule and are financially dependent on either their parents or grandparents. No cover is available for children who are born overseas during your trip.

One of the best reasons to purchase your family travel insurance through Insure&Go is the fact we allow you to include unlimited dependent children or grandchildren up to the age of 18 on your policy free of charge*.

Insure&Go offers affordable and comprehensive travel insurance policies. With Insure&Go you’ll be backed by an industry leader that offers an expansive 24/7 global assistance network. We offer 3 levels of cover to choose from, allowing you and your family to select the coverage that best suits your needs.

We also offer a range of policy upgrades that can help provide coverage for winter sports, business, golf and natural disasters.

If you’re expecting a child, Insure&Go also offers travel insurance for pregnant mothers. This provides coverage for pregnancies up to 30 weeks for single babies, and 20 weeks for multiples, regardless of whether you used IVF or not. Insure&Go makes it easy to obtain travel insurance for expectant mothers who wish to travel. Although our policies do not offer cover for babies born overseas, they do provide cover for medically certified pregnancy-related trip cancellations, like emergency childbirth coverage up to 30 weeks (single) and 20 weeks (multiples), and medical expenses for specific pregnancy-related complications depending on the level of cover you select.

Why buying a travel insurance policy is important for your family for an international trip.

Travel insurance for your family is especially important for international travel, as these holidays are often longer in duration and include a more complex itinerary. This often equates to a greater chance of travel disruptions occurring such as travel delays and lost bags or personal belongings.

Of course, one of the greatest benefits of international travel insurance is having coverage for unlimited overseas medical expenses and emergency medical evacuation. The cost of medical treatment can prove to be extremely costly in many countries.

Our international family travel insurance plans will once again cover your children or grandchildren at the same level of cover as you for no additional charge.

Why family travel insurance is important for domestic trips

Travel disruptions can also occur when travelling domestically. While you may think travelling throughout Australia is safer, flights can still be cancelled or delayed, accommodation can be affected by severe weather or natural disasters, luggage can be lost, and driving accidents can occur while driving a rented vehicle.

Insure&Go’s domestic travel insurance provides cover for families for a wide range of unfortunate travel incidents, such as needing to cancel your trip before departure (for qualifying reasons), cutting your trip short (for qualifying reasons), expenses incurred from travel delays, lost or stolen luggage, delayed luggage, personal liability, and rental car excess depending on the level of cover you select.

Common exclusions in travel insurance for your family

While we try to provide as much comprehensive coverage as possible for our family, there are a few exclusions to be aware of. We encourage our customers to read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Target Market Determination (TMD) that applies to your chosen type of policy.

You must be in Australia at the time of purchasing your travel insurance as we are unable to offer you new or different insurance while you already started your trip. You may, however, be eligible to extend the dates of your existing cover if you contact us during your travels.

These are certain instances where you may not be covered under your travel insurance during your travels:

  • Pre-existing medical conditions: Insure&Go considers all pre-existing medical conditions so long as they are reported at time of purchase. Failure to disclose any pre-existing medical conditions may void any claim relating to that condition.
  • Consumption of Alcohol: Claims that occur while you or a covered party is under the influence of alcohol or drugs will most likely be denied.
  • Government warnings: Check to make sure that any Australian Government foreign travel warnings won’t affect your travel insurance coverage.
  • Unattended belongings: You will not be covered for any personal luggage or belongings if you leave them unattended in a public place such as a beach.
  • Reporting incidents: Be sure to report any instance such as theft or loss of belongings within 24 hours to the appropriate authority or risk your claim being denied.
  • Non-included sports or activities: Engaging in sports or activities that are not covered may result in a claim being denied if it relates to one of the excluded activities. These activities include but are not limited to horse jumping, shark diving, kite surfing or paragliding. See our Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for a full list of sports and activities, which are not covered. However, please keep in mind that more than 90 sports and activities are automatically covered in all our policies.

It is important to note that our domestic policies do NOT provide coverage for medical expenses incurred during your trip. You may find coverage through Medicare or your private health insurer. However, we do offer limited compensation for permanent disablement or death with our Silver and Gold policies.

Other exclusions include:

  • Changing your mind about a holiday and deciding you simply don’t wish to travel
  • Recovering costs that would not have been incurred had you notified the appropriate holiday company or tour operator as soon as you knew you had to cancel your trip.
  • You decide to travel against the advice of your doctor.
  • Claims arising from an event where you were involved in any deliberate, malicious, reckless, illegal or criminal act.

Remember that in order to gain coverage for things like winter sports, business, or natural disasters. You must purchase the appropriate Insure&Go insurance upgrade option and the upgrade option must be shown on your policy schedule.

How to buy travel insurance for a group

Travel insurance policies for a group differ from family policies in that travellers don’t need to be related to one another to be included in the same policy. You may want to look into a policy for a group if you will be travelling with a number of adults.

All members of a policy bought as a group must simply be travelling together and not be booked on separate flights. A policy for a group is a great option when a single policy and its level of cover are ideally suited to all those listed on the policy.

Our best travel tips for families

  • Create an itinerary that includes the interests of each family member.
  • Get your kids involved with the holiday planning process to gain insight into what they might like to experience.
  • Make sure your itinerary is flexible when travelling with children. Don’t pack too much into an itinerary, as it can be difficult to stick to a tight schedule when you need to manage more people.
  • Allow your kids to help pack for their holidays so they can choose clothes and other items they are comfortable with.
  • Choose safe, family-friendly destinations.
  • Try to limit the number of hotels you stay in during your holiday, since the check-in/check-out process along with frequent packing and unpacking can be stressful for travelling families.
  • It’s important for younger kids to stick to their normal routine while travelling. This means planning meals and bedtimes around the same times as back home.
  • Because travelling with kids can be expensive, limit the number of paid excursions and seek out fun free activities on offer in your chosen destination.
  • Consider booking accommodation with cooking facilities to limit the need to eat out at restaurants and reduce your travel food expenses.
  • Always carry a change of clothes for your children on plane flights in case of spills or accidents.
  • Be sure to pre-book a bassinet on long-haul flights for infants if needed, since there are generally a limited number available.
  • Book accommodation that has separate rooms or sleeping areas so that everyone enjoys a proper night’s sleep and you can more easily vary everyone’s sleep and wake times.
  • Always inquire whether child discounts are available while travelling.
  • Be sure to carry snacks for the entire family while exploring destinations.
  • Provide your kids with contact information in case they get lost and plan a meeting place if your family becomes inadvertently split up.
  • Be sure to carry all medications and toiletries your children may require during your travels.

Cruise Travel Insurance | InsureandGo Australia

Cruise Travel Insurance

Cruise with added confidence

A cruise is an incredible experience, but unforeseen events can turn your dream holiday into a costly nightmare. Cruise travel insurance can provide additional peace of mind so you can enjoy a more relaxing break at sea.

With our Cruise Travel Insurance, you'll get the benefits of our Single-Trip policy, plus additional inclusions designed for cruising – things like reimbursements for certain expenses if your ship is delayed, missed port departures and cabin confinement.

But you shouldn’t just take our word for it. We also have over 20 awards1 and recommendations under our belt from comparison services and consumer advocacy groups in the last 10 years.

Cruise Insurance FAQs
Is cruise travel insurance mandatory?

While cruise travel insurance isn't required, it can help reduce certain costs when covered events occur. Specialised cruise insurance provides coverage for cruise-specific events such as reimbursement for missed shore excursions or compensation during cabin confinement.

Additionally, some cruise operators may require passengers to hold travel insurance as a condition of booking or boarding (requirements vary, so check your operator’s terms).

Does the insurance cover excursions booked independently?

Yes, InsureandGo can provide cover for your unused non-refundable prepaid tours and excursions if your cruise does not dock at a port scheduled on your original cruise itinerary, or if a scheduled tender is cancelled by the provider, but it's essential to review your specific policy's Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and meet certain requirements. Covered excursions must be operated by commercial providers and can't include activities that are excluded in the PDS.

If you've prepaid for an excursion and can't participate due to a covered event such as illness or injury, you may be reimbursed, with coverage limits depending on your selected plan.

Are pre-existing medical conditions covered?

Pre-existing medical conditions could affect your eligibility for medical cover under your travel insurance policy, unless they are declared at the time of policy purchase, and any applicable premium paid to cover these conditions.

To cover these conditions, we can perform a quick assessment of your medical conditions via a short questionnaire. You can complete this questionnaire online or by phone, and it usually takes only 5-10 minutes.

At the end, we’ll be able to tell you whether we can provide you with travel insurance cover for your medical conditions.

What happens if I miss the cruise departure due to flight delays§?

Our policies can provide cover for reasonable and necessary additional travel expenses incurred after leaving your Australian home address that exceed your original budget, and are required to continue your itinerary, if you missed your pre-booked cruise departure from Australia due to:

  • An accident involving your transport
  • Cancellation, delay, or diversion of your scheduled transport (only expenses you can't claim elsewhere and where no alternatives were offered)
  • a natural disaster (only if you've purchased the Natural Disaster upgrade option shown on your policy schedule; excludes disasters known at time of purchase)
Can I extend my coverage if I decide to stay longer?

If you wish to extend your cover whilst travelling, then you need to contact us on 1300 401 177 or email us at info@insureandgo.com.au

Which destination to select for your trip

Choosing the right destination coverage gives you an added layer of protection on your trip.

Policies can be purchased to cover one or more destination countries or regions outside of Australia. To ensure you are covered for your planned destinations, you should let us know your main destination, including countries or regions you are travelling to and spending more than 48 hours in on your trip.

Cover for Antarctica is limited to cruises and associated excursions.

Destination Countries covered
Domestic Cruise Domestic cruises within Australian Territorial waters.
Domestic, NZ and Pacific Cruise Cruises that include any Pacific destination and docks at any Australian port after departure (including final port).
Asia and Domestic Cruises that include any Asia destination and docks at any Australian port after departure (including final port).
Worldwide excluding North and South America and Antarctica Worldwide excluding USA, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, Central & South America and Antarctica.
Worldwide including North and South America and Antarctica If your destination is Worldwide including North and South America and Antarctica, you are covered Worldwide including USA, Canada, Mexico, Central & South America and Antarctica (cruises only).

This policy will not cover any loss, injury or illness, dental, damage or legal liability arising directly or indirectly from travel in, to or through destinations that are subject to “Do Not Travel” advice from the Australian Government, as well as events occurring in any international conflicts or interventions involving the use of force or coercion, or where a sanction would prevent us from paying your claim (see General condition 15 and General exclusions 11 and 13 for more detail).

Why do you need cruise travel insurance?

Cruises present unique risks that can result in significant financial losses. Medical emergencies at sea are particularly costly. Onboard facilities charge medical expenses not covered by Medicare, and medical evacuation can cost tens of thousands of dollars.

Cruises can be vulnerable to cancellations due to severe weather or mechanical issues, while missing a port departure can leave you stranded, requiring expensive last-minute flights to rejoin your ship.

Cruise insurance can reduce financial burdens and may provide cover for medical expenses, non-refundable costs and provide emergency assistance.

What isn’t covered

While our cruise travel insurance provides additional protection, there are some exclusions you should be aware of. Your policy won't cover:

  • Pre-existing medical conditions that weren't declared or aren't covered under your policy
  • Engaging in high-risk activities specified as not covered in your policy terms
  • Travelling against official government travel advisories
  • Unattended luggage or personal belongings

Always review your Product Disclosure Statement to understand the full scope of limits, sub-limits and exclusions and ensure you have the right coverage for your trip. If you need any assistance, call:

  • Sales: 1300 401 177
  • Claims: +61 2 7201 9532

Why Domestic Travel Insurance is important

Travel disruptions can happen whether you’re planning a trip to Paris or Perth. While you may feel safer here at home in Australia, flights can be cancelled or delayed.

Severe weather or natural disasters can affect your accommodation. Luggage can be lost, and, if driving, accidents can occur while driving a rented vehicle. Purchasing a travel insurance policy may help you avoid large out-of-pocket costs, which might arise due to unexpected incidents on your domestic plan.

Domestic travel insurance covers many travel problems and helps you get your holiday back on track quickly. Often, our trips within Australia can cost as much as international ones. So, it is smart to get domestic travel insurance. This is true whether you are planning an Outback adventure to the Red Centre or visiting places like Norfolk Island.

Annual trip Most Common Questions
Why do I need cover for domestic trips?

Our Insurance helps you cover cancelling trips before departure, cutting your trip short, rental car excess waiver, and special events, among other things, depending on your level of cover. Please go through the PDS or Product Disclosure Statement for more information.

Does your insurance cover damage to a rental car?

Our Silver and Gold policies cover your rental car excess with a maximum limit of $7,500 available in domestic policies. However, you need to make sure that the rental car is insured, as we do not pay for full damages to a rental car, only your excess. Please note, that motorbikes are excluded.

Do you cover sports and activities?

There are 40 sports and adventure activities where accidental death and permanent disability are automatically covered free, however, to have cover for any winter sports activity you must have purchased this option and the option must be shown on your policy schedule. Please note there is no cover for medical expenses incurred whilst you are undertaking any of the covered sports activities. For more information, please go through the PDS or the Product Disclosure Statement.

I’m taking out the top cover, am I covered for anything that can go wrong on my trip?

Our premiums would be astronomical if we did that! There are limits and exclusions to all travel insurance policies, so we strongly advise you to read our Product Disclosure Statement to see if our product is right for you.

Do you cover pre-existing medical conditions for domestic policies?

We do not offer medical coverage on domestic policies as Medicare or private health insurers cover medical expenses in Australia.

Do you provide cover for a domestic cruise trip?

Yes, if you select a Cruise policy with your destination as Domestic. If you are going on a cruise within Australian territorial waters and would like to be covered for onboard Medical expenses and evacuation then you must choose either our Cruise Travel Insurance or our Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance. Please note no medical expenses are covered whilst on land in Australia.

Read the Product Disclosure Statement for more information.

What is the longest time do you cover for domestic trip?

For domestic trips, the maximum length of cover is 365 days.

What does a Domestic Travel Insurance policy cover?

Domestic travel insurance can cover you for a wide array of travel disruptions. The specific coverage and coverage amounts will be determined by what level of cover you select. At Insure&Go, you have the ability to choose between three different coverage levels which include our Bare Essentials, Silver, and Gold policies. Depending on the policy you choose, the following coverage may apply to you.

Please note: Not all our policies cover domestic travel. For example, the ‘One-trip’ and (when available) the ‘Annual Multi-trip’ policies do not cover domestic travel in Australia. Please ensure that you select the right policy/policies for your needs.

  • Cancelling your trip before departure: Should the need arise where you must cancel your holiday for one of our covered reasons, we can help to recover the costs associated with flights, accommodation, and pre-paid meals and activities. Covered reasons for needing a trip cancellation include events like the unforeseeable death or illness of a family member or travelling partner that resides in Australia, being called for jury duty, or an accident involving a vehicle you were planning to travel in.
  • Cutting your trip short: We may be able to provide coverage if you are deemed unfit to continue with your holiday by a doctor, or for an unforeseen tragedy such as a death or illness in the family which occurs during your trip. If your trip is cut short due to a natural disaster, you may also be covered if you have purchased our natural disaster travel insurance upgrade.
  • Resumption of your trip: Insure&Go can return you to the airport closest to the location where you had to cut your original trip short and cover the cost of the airfare necessary to resume your trip for certain covered circumstances.
  • Travel delay expenses: If a leg of your trip is delayed by more than 12 hours, you may be reimbursed for any necessary additional expenses such as meals and accommodation.
  • Personal belongings and baggage: If your personal effects are lost, stolen, or damaged during your trip, you may be covered for any such items so long as you aren’t careless in securing or protecting those items. Coverage amounts for personal belongings will vary depending on your level of coverage. You may also be covered for any personal money that is lost or stolen so long as you can provide proof of ownership.
  • Delayed baggage: If your luggage is delayed by more than 24 hours, we can help recover the costs associated with buying essential items to get you through until your bags arrive. Be sure to keep all documents from airlines that prove your bags were delayed for more than 24 hours and retain your receipts associated with any essential items you purchased. There is generally no coverage provided for delayed baggage if it occurs during your final journey home.
  • Personal liability: All three of Insure&Go’s policy coverage levels provide coverage for personal liability. This covers you in the event you become legally liable for accidentally injuring someone or damaging someone else’s property during your trip.
  • Rental car excess waiver: If your rented vehicle is involved in a motor vehicle accident while you are driving, or the vehicle is damaged or stolen, you may be reimbursed for the rental car insurance excess that is charged to you by the rental car company, subject to the level of cover selected and limits that apply.

Additional coverage that a domestic travel insurance policy may cover includes reimbursement for legal expenses and additional emergency expenses. You may also be covered for a wide range of sports and activities so long as they are not associated with a competition or tournament, you follow the necessary safety guidelines, and you make use of the recommended safety equipment.

Covered activities may include but are not limited to netball, cricket, snorkelling, cycling, and surfing. See our Domestic Travel Insurance Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for a full list of covered sports and activities.

What does a domestic travel insurance policy NOT cover?

While Insure&Go’s domestic travel insurance policies provide a great deal of coverage for your Australian holidays, there are things that you won’t be covered for. Some coverage options are only available to certain levels of coverage such as with our Silver or Gold policies, while other situations may not be covered under any level of coverage. These are some of the situations where we may not be able to provide coverage for you.

  • Our policies do NOT provide coverage for medical expenses incurred during your trip. You may find coverage through Medicare or your private health insurer. However, we do offer limited compensation for permanent disablement or death with our Silver and Gold policies.
  • Changing your mind about a holiday and deciding you simply don’t wish to travel.
  • Recovering costs that would not have been incurred had you notified the appropriate holiday company or tour operator as soon as you knew you had to cancel your trip.
  • Engaging in sports or activities that are not covered, including but not limited to abseiling, shark diving, quad biking, or zip lining. Read our Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for a full list of sports and activities that are generally not covered.
  • If you have certain pre-existing medical conditions that may give rise to a claim, or you are receiving or waiting for hospital tests or medical treatment for any condition or set of symptoms that have not been diagnosed.
  • You decide to travel against the advice of your doctor.
  • Claims arising from the use of a two-wheeled or three-wheeled motor vehicle.
  • Claims arising from an event where you were involved in any deliberate, malicious, reckless, illegal or criminal act.
  • Costs that you would have been expected to pay had the reason for the claim not occurred.
  • Claims where alcohol or drug use may have been a contributing factor for an event that led to the claim.

To gain coverage for things like winter sports, business, natural disasters, or cruises within Australia, you must purchase the appropriate Insure&Go insurance upgrade option. The upgrade option must be shown on your policy schedule.

Levels of domestic cover

Insure&Go offers three levels of domestic travel insurance cover, including our Bare Essential, Silver, and Gold policies. Be sure to read our Product Disclosure Statement, for more information and full details regarding each level of cover.

Domestic travel insurance for non-permanent residents

If you find yourself living in Australia as a non-permanent resident and need domestic travel insurance, you may be able eligible to purchase an Insure&Go domestic travel insurance policy. The benefits of an Insure&Go domestic travel insurance policy are the same for all customers regardless of their residency as long as they meet certain required criteria.

  • Non-permanent residents must have a valid Medicare card, private health fund, or overseas student travel insurance in Australia and it must remain valid for the entire duration of your holiday. (The Australian Government has certain agreements with countries around the world, called the Reciprocal Health Care Agreements (RHCA). If your country of residence is a part of this agreement then you may be able to receive Medicare benefits.)
  • Your trip must begin in Australia and you must be in Australia at the time of purchasing your insurance policy.
  • We do not offer any insurance for inbound travellers coming to Australia.

Domestic Insurance Upgrades

In addition to the comprehensive coverage our domestic travel insurance policies already provide, you can enhance your coverage further by looking into and purchasing one of our available insurance upgrades. These are a few of our most popular domestic insurance upgrades.

Winter Sports Cover

If you plan on taking a winter holiday to one of Australia’s exciting ski resorts, we can help provide coverage for your winter sports activities. This can include coverage for personal winter sports equipment and hired equipment that is lost, stolen, or damaged during your trip. It can also help recover the costs resulting from the loss or theft of lift passes during your trip, or for any unused percentage of a ski package that you have already paid for and cannot get back if you become ill or are injured during your trip and cannot take part in the winter sports activities as planned. Note that we do not provide coverage for medical expenses incurred while engaging in winter sports activities.

Business Cover

Australian business travellers can benefit by purchasing our business coverage upgrade. This provides coverage for lost, stolen, or damaged business equipment during your trip. This includes coverage for reasonable emergency courier expenses that you need to pay to replace business equipment essential to your intended business due to loss, theft, or damage. You may also be covered should you need to hire business equipment in the event that your personal business equipment is delayed in reaching you during your trip on your outward journey or lost during your trip.

Golf Cover

Thinking of heading to Tasmania to play a round of golf at the beautiful Barnbougle Dunes Golf Links? Our golf cover upgrade can provide coverage for your personal golf equipment that is lost, stolen, or damaged during your trip. You may need to hire golf equipment in such cases, and this coverage can assist you with the costs of that as well. You also may be covered for the unused percentage of your green fees, golf tuition fees, or golf equipment hire which you have already paid for and cannot get back should you become ill or are injured during your trip and cannot take part in the golf activities as planned.

Natural Disaster Cover

Natural disasters often occur with little or no warning and they can severely affect your holiday plans. Purchasing our natural disaster coverage upgrade can offer you financial protection for your holidays in the event of a natural disaster such as a cyclone, flood, bushfire, or other extraordinary natural phenomenon. This coverage may allow you to recover some of the costs associated with cancelling your trip or cutting your trip short. Make sure you have your policy in place before a natural disaster occurs because once a natural disaster event has taken place; it will be too late to purchase this upgrade for your trip.

Domestic Cruises

If you’re planning on taking a domestic cruise around Australia, be sure to purchase one of our cruise policies and select the domestic option as your destination. Our standard domestic travel insurance does not cover medical and evacuation expenses incurred in Australia, so in order to be covered for onboard medical expenses and evacuation while cruising within Australian territorial waters then you must purchase Insure&Go cruise insurance. Cruise insurance can cover you for events such as missed port cover, reimbursements for shore excursions, cruise delays, and cabin confinement.
