Luggage Cover FAQs

Can I increase my Rental Car Excess Waiver limit?

The Rental Car Excess Waiver cannot be modified or increased to a higher coverage limit. Policyholders should choose the plan that is most suitable for their individual needs. There is no cover for the Rental Car excess waiver on the bare essentials plans.

Do I need to pay the excess first to make a claim?

Yes, the Rental Car Excess Waiver benefit reimburses you for the excess after it has been charged by the rental company. To make a claim, you’ll need documentation from the rental provider confirming the damage or theft and the excess amount paid, along with any supporting evidence required under the policy.

Does rental car excess cover campervans and 4WD?

Yes, InsureandGo Australia’s rental car excess waiver covers a range of rental vehicles hired from a licensed rental company, including compact cars, SUVs, campervans and motorhomes under six tonnes, as well as motorcycles and mopeds and are used in line with your rental agreement.

Covered vehicle types include:

  • Campervans or motorhomes under 6 tonne
  • Coupe, 4WD, hatchback, minibus, people
  • mover, sedan, station wagon and SUVs
  • Motorcycles or mopeds
Do I still need car insurance when I hire a vehicle?

Yes. The rental car excess waiver benefit doesn’t replace the rental company’s insurance.  You will still be responsible for arranging the insurance offered by the rental provider, which typically covers damage to the vehicle and third party liability, in accordance with the rental agreement.

Are third‑party damages included?

No, the rental car excess waiver only covers the excess amount charged by the rental company if the vehicle is damaged or stolen. It doesn’t cover damage to other vehicles, property, or people.

Is liability covered?

No, liability cover is not included under InsureandGo Australia’s rental car excess waiver benefit. This benefit only applies to the excess payable under your rental agreement, up to your selected policy limit.

What isn’t covered by rental car excess waiver benefit?

Rental car excess cover doesn’t cover every situation. It won’t apply if the vehicle is damaged or stolen while being used outside the terms of your rental agreement, including if it’s driven off-road, used illegally, or driven by someone not authorised by the rental company. It also doesn’t cover mechanical failure, wear and tear, or fines and penalties (e.g late fees, loss of use fees) charged by the rental provider.
