Most Common Questions
I am overseas right now – can I buy, change or upgrade a policy?

You need to be in Australia at the time of purchasing your insurance. If you are overseas, we are unable to offer you new or different insurance. You may be eligible to extend the dates of your existing cover, so shoot us an email and find out.

How does cancellation cover work?

Cancellation cover starts on the date of purchase of Silver and Gold. Cancellation is covered if the insured cannot travel due to medical reasons, the death of a relative, an unknown natural disaster (if you have included this option in your policy), serious damage to a home in Australia and so on. In any such event, the insured can cancel and claim for the non-recoverable pre-booked expenses lost on the trip.

How to find the best travel insurance?

Finding the right travel insurance can be a bit of a journey, but it’s worth it! Start by looking at ratings and reviews to see which policies match your needs. Awards and recommendations from trusted consumer groups can also guide you. For more tips on choosing the best travel policy, read here to know more.

Do you cover the cost of vaccinations?

Depending on your specific needs, we can provide pre-trip advice such as what vaccinations are required and the local medical conditions at your destination (Page 7 of our Product Disclosure Statement or PDS).

For prescribed medications and maintenance and in case they get lost during a trip, this can be covered for as long as the medical condition related to these medications are declared.

As for preventive vaccination, we primarily advise to visit your GP and ask for options. Also, look out for the health section in Smarttravelers.gov.au to check out advice and medical precautions needs to be looked at depending on the country you chose to travel in.

How travel insurance for pregnancy works?

We automatically cover you for unlimited medical emergencies, hospital and surgical for the complications of pregnancy up to the 30 weeks (for one baby only). However, be advised that this policy is limited to the complications of pregnancy only. For a comprehensive list of what is and is not covered please refer to the Product Disclosure Statement.

I’m taking out the top cover, am I covered for anything that can go wrong on my trip?

Our premiums would be astronomical if we could do that! There are limits and exclusions to all travel insurance policies, so we strongly advise you to read our product disclosure statement (or search [ctrl+F] for key words to check limits and exclusions) to see if our product is right for you.

How can I find the best cheap travel insurance?

The best cheap travel insurance can be found by comparing different providers and looking for promotional offers. InsureandGo is a popular choice, offering discounts for couples and free coverage for children. Make sure to read the product disclosure statement to ensure the policy meets your needs.

In what circumstances I can cancel the policy?

You can cancel the policy and obtain a full refund if you cancel within the 21-day cooling-off period, provided you have not departed for your journey nor have you made any claims on this policy.

Am I covered if I have to cancel my trip because I got Covid-19?

Our Silver and Gold policies offer coverage for $2,500 and $5,000 respectively if it is necessary and unavoidable for you to cancel your trip as a result of:

  • you being medically diagnosed with COVID-19 after you purchase the policy,

  • a travelling companion being medially diagnosed with COVID-19 after purchasing the policy.

These benefits will cover:

Cheap Travel Insurance

**Children (including fostered, or adopted children) travelling with either their parents or grandparents will be provided with travel insurance cover for no additional cost (any pre-existing medical conditions may incur an additional charge). This is provided they are under 18 years of age, named on the Policy Schedule and are financially dependent on either their parents or grandparents.

Low Cost Insurance Basics & Tips

  • Insure just the things you need by choosing a policy that will cover you for expenses you believe you may need most. Although a comprehensive policy is always advisable, there are basic options that may suit your budget better. Use our travel insurance quotes to find the best option for you.
  • Don’t go it alone. Purchasing plans as a couple or family can be a cost effective way to acquire cheap travel insurance¹ rather than buying single policies. Why?
    • If you travel as a couple, you can get a 10% discount on travel insurance. This discount is available when you book through InsureandGo.
    • We understand that travelling with children can be expensive. That’s why we cover your dependent children up to 18 years of age.  They receive the same level of coverage as you, and there is no extra charge**. Our travel insurance includes cover for luggage and personal effects, ensuring peace of mind while travelling.

Choosing the Right Excess for You

Increasing your excess can save you even more. You can lower your premium by increasing the excess limit on your cover.

On our compare policy page you can “double” your excess to reduce the cost of the policy. Excess is the contribution you are required to pay towards a claim you make on your travel insurance policy. So keep in mind, that in the event of something going wrong, you’ll need to pay excess per person per claim. Find more info about excess here.

It does not matter the engine size, we believe that if you are a safe legal driver you should be able to experience the world on two wheels no matter where you are. Of course, you need to stay safe, so wear a crash helmet at all times (or you risk a possible claim being denied), and be aware that different excesses are applicable in the event of claim depending upon the engine size (for 125cc or under excess is $250; over 125cc excess payable is $500). For more info on excess, scroll down to our FAQs. Also something to take note of is that there is no cover for personal accident and personal liability for this activity.

This cover is not available with domestic policies and applies to international policies only.

Travel Insurance for Asia Travel Insurance for Asia

Asia has long been a favourite international destination for Australians. The world’s largest continent is home to fascinating countries that offer a wide range of cultures, religions, wildlife, and landscapes.

Whether you’re a young solo backpacker or a retired couple, Asia offers incredible holiday experiences from relaxing in Thailand to embarking on an Indian wildlife safari.

However, regardless of your travel style, you should make sure you protect yourself with travel insurance for Asia. Natural disasters, petty crime, and water and food-borne illnesses are just some of the important reasons to financially protect yourself so you can enjoy a worry-free holiday.

    Most Common Questions
Does your insurance cover damage to a rental cars and rental motorbikes?

Our Gold policies cover your rental car excess up to $8,000, but not motorbikes. For a rental car to be covered, you need to make sure that it is insured (confirmed by the rental company), as we do not pay for full damages to a rental car, only your excess.

    Do you cover bungee jumping?

Yes, we cover all overseas medical expenses (unlimited), as well as permanent injury, and personal liability (policy payout limits apply to these) as related to bungee jumping, so long as you limit yourself to a maximum of three jumps.

Which countries are covered under “Asia” destination option?

    International trips:

Asia: Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam only. By selecting Asia, you will be covered for the destinations under Asia AND The South Pacific.

    Cruise specific destinations:

Asia and Domestic: Cruises that include any Asia destination and docks at any Australian port after departure, including the final port.

Do you cover flight delays after departure?

Under the Insure&Go Silver and Gold levels of cover, we will reimburse the cost of your necessary additional meals and accommodation expenses, if during a trip, any individual leg of your trip, is delayed for more than 12 hours.

The amount you can claim varies depending on the level of cover that you have purchased with us. Please refer to the policy wording documents for more information.

    What does ‘excess’ mean?

Excess is the amount you pay us in the event of a claim being approved. Our excess applies per person, per event, per claim.
You can choose the excess you want ($100, $200, $0), but be aware this will change the price of your initial premium. Our standard excess amount is $100 but you can decide to remove or double this amount through the purchase process.

I am overseas right now – can I buy, change or upgrade a policy?

You need to be in Australia at the time of purchasing your insurance. If you are overseas, we are unable to offer you new or different insurance. You may be eligible to extend the dates of your existing cover, so shoot us an email and find out.

    Cruise Coverage in Asia

With the most coastline of any continent, Asia offers a wide array of cruises. Cruise the open waters of Southeast Asia as you explore tropical island paradises or float down enchanting and culturally rich rivers such as the Mekong, Ganges, and Yangtze.

With cruise travel insurance, you can be assured you will be protected should anything go wrong. If your trip includes any travel by cruise ship, then select the “Cruise” option to be covered for the land, air, and cruise part of your journey. By cruise, we refer to any travel on sea, ocean, or river by any commercially operated ship, boat, or other sea vessel for longer than two hours.

You will need to select the coverage that incorporates all the countries you are travelling to. As cruises in Asia may include several different geographical areas, you would select the geographical travel plan that best describes your cruise itinerary, which includes all the countries and regions that are included in your journey.

    Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance

Asia offers an endless choice of wonderful holidays, all of which are close to home, making it both easy and affordable to take several holidays to Asia per year. If you plan on taking off to Asia more than once within the year, you may wish to look into an Annual Multi-Trip Insurance policy for your Asia trips, as it may cost you only slightly more than your One-Trip Insurance policy.

    Long-Duration Visits to Asia

Asia consists of 48 countries, which may mean you need an extended visit to experience all the continent has to offer. Asia is a popular Gap Year and backpacker destination, and we offer cheap travel insurance¹ to Asia for long-duration visits.

If you find you will be travelling to a destination for more than 60 days, we offer flexible One-Trip Travel Insurance which cover you for up to 12 months in a destination and comprehensive travel insurance cover with the option of visiting your home in Australia for up to 14 days without having to void your policy.

    Natural Disaster Coverage for Asia

Asia is prone to several types of natural disasters, with the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events projected to grow. Natural disasters that can occur in Asian countries include floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and typhoons. We offer natural disaster coverage as an optional add-on to protect you in the event an unforeseen disaster should occur.

To make a claim due to a natural disaster, you must have purchased this add-on, and the option must be shown on your policy. Please note that there is no coverage for costs incurred as a result of a natural disaster event that is known prior to purchasing or upgrading the policy. If there is a known natural disaster event, it will be written in bold text within the natural disaster section at the point of selection, and over the phone by our agents.

Note that medical cover due to any natural disaster is automatically included in all international policies without purchasing the add-on.

Choose our Silver or Gold level of cover and you will be protected for cancelling your trip before departure or cutting your trip short. All levels of cover will include coverage for additional emergency expenses. These are expenses you incur after departure that are over and above what you had originally budgeted to pay, if your trip is disrupted, or you are required to return to your home in Australia because of a natural disaster. These expenses can include things such as accommodation, meals, or travelling costs.

You should always check before planning your travel to Thailand that the country has no specific travel insurance requirements. While we cannot advise on whether or not you should purchase travel insurance to travel to Thailand; taking out travel insurance is highly recommended by the Australian government and smartraveller.gov.au.

We automatically cover you for unlimited medical, hospital and surgical for the complications of pregnancy up to and including the 30th week for one baby only.

There is no cover for claims resulting from your pregnancy or childbirth after the 30th week of pregnancy.

However medical expenses cover will be provided for a range of complications associated with pregnancy before the 31st week of pregnancy. Please read the PDS for more information.

If you become pregnant after you purchase a policy and will be more than 30 weeks pregnant (or 20 weeks if you are expecting more than one baby) at the start of, or during, your trip, you may be covered for the cancellation of your trip before departure, as explained in the PDS.

Please keep in mind that no cover is available for children who are born overseas during your trip.

How much does travel insurance to Thailand costs?

It depends upon various factors such as your age, how many people are travelling, for how long, if any travellers have pre-existing conditions etc. so we cannot estimate the cost of the travel insurance to Thailand without knowing those things. You can fill in your trip details in the quote box above and at the next step; and you will be able to select a policy within three different levels of cover. Please note this policy price will increase if you opt for various other add-ons such as golf, business, natural disaster etc.

Do you cover pre-existing medical conditions?

Insure&Go do not automatically include cover for any pre-existing medical conditions. But all conditions can be considered via a medical questionnaire that you can either complete online or through the call centre.

A pre-existing medical condition is any diagnosed medical condition for which, in the last 5 years, you or any insured person has suffered from or has received any form of medical advice, treatment or medication.

To determine whether your condition will be covered, you will need to complete the Medical Assessment during the purchase process online or over the phone.

Please contact us if you would like to complete the questionnaire over the phone.

Do you provide cover for a natural disaster?

Yes, we offer cover for additional emergency expenses you may incur because of a natural disaster, provided you select natural disasters cover in the last step of the purchase journey. This additional fee to be covered for these events is applicable under all levels of cover and the amount you can claim varies depending on the level of cover you choose. Please note that if you do not select this cover you will not be covered for natural disaster. This optional add-on can be selected at the end of the quotation just before making a payment online or if doing it over the phone our agent will ask you if you wish to add it onto your policy. Whilst you may not be covered for natural disaster if you fail to add on the optional add-on, you will still be covered for medical expenses incurred as a result of a natural disaster.

    • Pre-Existing Medical Conditions: Insure&Go considers all pre-existing medical conditions for potential cover, if agreed,  so long as they are reported at the time of purchase. Failure to disclose any pre-existing medical conditions may void any claim relating to that condition.
