What does InsureandGo consider as a commercial cruise?

We consider a commercial cruise any sea, ocean or river travel conducted by a commercially operated ship, boat or other sea vessel, with a scheduled journey time longer than 2 hours.

Am I covered for any onshore activities or excursions?

We automatically include coverage for more than 90 sports and activities. To check whether your intended activities are covered please refer to pages 46 – 48 in our Cruise travel insurance PDS.

If you cannot find your activity, don’t worry, if the activity meets the following criteria, it will be covered:

  1.  The activity is not part of a competition or tournament.

  2.  The activity is not on a professional basis.

  3.  Activities provided by a commercial operator and open to persons of all ages including those with height or general health warnings (e.g. Disneyland rides)

  4.  The activity is not listed under Table of excluded sports and activities, which can be found on page 50 in the Cruise travel insurance PDS.

What happens if my baggage and personal belongings gets stolen or is lost before boarding the cruise?

If you are an InsureandGo Cruise policyholder and you have lost your baggage, or it gets stolen before boarding your cruise, we will pay for items that accompanied you for your individual and personal use during your trip whilst in Australia prior to boarding your cruise.

For cruises that leave a port in Australia, this cover commences after you leave your home address and a maximum of 72 hours prior to your Cruise departing your first Australian port, as stated on your itinerary.

What is the difference between missed port and missed cruise departure?

Missed Port: If your cruise does not port at certain docks during your trip due to adverse weather restrictions or mechanical break-down, Silver and Gold Cruise policy^ customers will be reimbursed up to the amount shown in the table of benefits in the PDS.

Missed Cruise Departure: If you missed the scheduled departure of your pre-booked cruise from Australia due to reasons detailed under section C3-Missed Cruise Departure of the Cruise travel insurance PDS, Silver and Gold Cruise travel insurance policyholders will be paid up to the amount shown in the Table of benefits. You will be reimbursed for reasonable and necessary additional accommodation and travelling expenses incurred after you leave your home address in Australia, that are over and above what you had originally budgeted to pay and are needed to continue with your original itinerary.

Do I have to purchase a cruise policy if I´m cruising on my own boat?

If you are sailing then you do not require our cruise policy^. Instead, you may select the international single trip or our Annual Multi-Trip policy^, which will only cover you for necessary and reasonable medical expenses whilst on your own personal boat. However, InsureandGo does not provide cover if you are racing or if you sail outside territorial waters.

What do I do if I get sick on board?

If you are an InsureandGo Cruise policyholder, we will pay you for the necessary and reasonable medical costs incurred as a result of you becoming ill or injured whilst on board. We will also cover Evacuation expenses if the medical practitioner has stated in writing that you are unfit to continue your trip due to medical illness or injury.

If you are a Silver or Gold Cruise policyholder, we will reimburse you $75 for each 24-hour period that you are confined by the ship's medical officer to your cabin for medical reasons during the period of your trip.

Am I covered if I get sick on shore during an excursion?

If you are an InsureandGo Policyholder, we will pay you for the necessary and reasonable costs incurred as a result of you becoming ill, being injured or dying whilst on your trip or cruise.

InsureandGo Policy covers more than 90 sports and activities. For the details of covered activities and excursions and their requirements, please refer to pages 36 – 38 of our PDS.

If you are on a domestic cruise, InsureandGo will provide Cruise travel insurance policyholders coverage for Medical and Evacuation expenses. However, this benefit does not apply to any medical treatment needed on-land in Australia or whilst the ship is tied up in an Australian port.
