Travelling without cover? 9 Reasons Why You Must Buy Travel Insurance

October 7,2024

Planning to embark on a dreamy cruise to exotic destinations from Australia? Whether you're exploring the stunning coastlines of Australia on a domestic cruise or setting sail to international waters, having the right travel insurance is crucial. Medicare might cover you on land, but it often falls short when it comes to cruise holidays. Here are some key considerations for why travel insurance is a must for your cruise, whether you're travelling with family, kids, or seniors, or just enjoying a solo adventure.

Travelling with Family

When travelling with your loved ones, peace of mind is paramount. From medical emergencies to trip cancellations, travel insurance ensures that everyone is protected and can enjoy the trip without worries. Coverage for medical treatments, lost luggage, and missed ports are especially important for families with kids, who may need specific care and items during the journey.

Travelling with Kids

Kids bring an extra layer of joy and excitement to any trip, but they also come with unique needs and potential challenges. Travel insurance can cover medical expenses for children, provide compensation for lost or delayed baggage containing essential items, and offer support in case of emergency situations. Whether it's a family vacation or a multi-generational trip, having coverage for kids ensures a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Travelling with Seniors

Seniors may have different health and mobility concerns, making travel insurance particularly important. Comprehensive coverage for pre-existing medical conditions, emergency medical evacuations, and personal liability provides added security for senior travelers. Ensuring that seniors have the necessary coverage helps them enjoy the journey with confidence and comfort.

Cover for Adventure Activities

Cruises often offer a variety of adventure activities such as scuba diving, bungee jumping, and shore excursions. Travel insurance can cover injuries sustained during these activities, allowing you to indulge in thrilling experiences without worry. It's essential to check if your policy includes coverage for the specific activities you plan to participate in.

Conclusion

Cruise travel insurance is an essential part of any cruise journey, offering protection for families, kids, seniors, and solo travelers alike. It ensures you have coverage for medical emergencies, trip cancellations, lost belongings, and more, allowing you to fully enjoy your vacation without any worries. So, before you set sail on your next adventure, make sure you have the right travel insurance to keep you covered.

One Big Switch Logo Most Common Questions
1. What does ‘excess’ mean?

Excess is the amount you pay us in the event of a claim being approved. Our excess applies per person, per event, per claim. You can choose the excess you want ($100, $200, $0), but be aware this will change the price of your initial premium.

3. I’m taking out the top cover, am I covered for anything that can go wrong on my trip?

Our premiums would be astronomical if we could do that! There are limits and exclusions to all travel insurance policies, so we strongly advise you to read our product disclosure statement (or search [ctrl+F] for keywords to check limits and exclusions) to see if our product is right for you.

2. Does your insurance cover damage to a rental car and rental motorbikes?

Our Silver and Gold policies cover your rental car excess for up to $4,000 and $8,000 respectively, but not for motorbikes. For a rental car to be covered, you need to make sure that it is insured (confirmed by the rental company), as we do not pay for full damages to a rental car, only your excess.

4. Do you cover travel delays?

We will reimburse the cost of your necessary additional meals and accommodation expenses, up to the amount in your policy, if any individual leg of your trip is delayed for more than 12 hours as long as you eventually go on holiday. Sub-limits per 12 hours apply.

Fifty up logo Most Common Questions
1. What is the maximum age you can insure up to?

We cover up to 79 or 100 years of age, subject to policy type and cover level selected.

3. Do you cover pre-existing medical conditions?

We consider all pre-existing medical conditions for possible cover, subject to agreement, in all of our travel insurance products, except for our Domestic Travel Insurance. To determine whether your condition will be covered, you will need to complete the Medical Assessment during the purchase process online or over the phone.

5. If cover is refused for my pre-existing medical condition, am I still covered for my trip?

If, subject to our medical questionnaire, we are unable to cover your pre-existing medical conditions, we will only exclude any claims directly/indirectly relating to those conditions. Please keep in mind that you are still insured medically for a new condition that may unexpectedly arise overseas as well as accidental injuries and illnesses.

2. Is there a Senior’s travel insurance policy I need to purchase?

No. Simply select the trip type that best describes your journey.

4. I’m taking out the top cover, am I covered for anything that can go wrong on my trip?

With our Silver and Gold policies, we do offer cover for cancelling your trip prior to departure due to the unforeseen accident, illness or injury of one of your parents. Your parents must live in Australia and be in Australia at the time, and this cover does not include any cover for pre-existing medical conditions.

6. Do you cover flight delays after departure?

Under the Insure&Go Silver and Gold levels of cover, we will reimburse the cost of your necessary additional meals and accommodation expenses, if during a trip, any individual leg of your trip, is delayed for more than 12 hours, as long as you eventually go on the holiday.

The amount you can claim varies depending on the level of cover that you have purchased with us. Please refer to the policy wording documents for more information.
