Sand Safari Arts Festival, Surfers Paradise (February)

The whole family will be mesmerised by the gigantic sand sculptures at the Sand Safari Arts Festival. This year’s competition theme is Mermaids and Mythical Creatures, and there are hands-on workshops and activities for kids. Best of all, the whole event is free!

Chinchilla Melon Festival, Chinchilla (February)

Mellon eating contestGet melon-ready for a wild weekend at the Chinchilla Melon Festival! Held every two years, this one is great for kids and adults alike, with Kids’ Movie Night taking place on March 17 and the Melon Parade (as well as other kid-aimed entertainment) on March 18.

Adelaide Writers’ Week Kids’ Weekend, Adelaide (March)

The Kids’ Weekend of the Adelaide Fest is a wonderful two-day event that will inspire and encourage your child’s creative side. The weekend involves storytelling, singing, theatre, art, parades and some exciting creature features. 

Sydney Royal Easter Show, Sydney (April)

The whole family will love the agricultural fun to be had at the annual Royal Easter Show. Petting zoos, shows and competitions, carnival rides, showbags and daily fireworks will make this trip non-stop and fun-packed. April 19th (the last day of the show) is also Kids’ Day, with tickets half price and carnival rides 2 for the price of 1! 

Fun4Kids Festival, Warrnambool (July)

If you want the kids to make the most of their winter school holidays, Fun4Kids is not to be missed! A week of live children’s shows and plenty of activity and game zones will keep your kids entertained for hours here. The past couple of years have included events like art classes, dances and even light sabre workshops. Tickets are available as single or multi-day passes and the event is perfect for kids aged 2-12.

Floriade Festival of Flowers, Canberra (September/October)

There’s no denying the wonder of fields of blooming flowers, and Floriade is a Canberra must-see. You can take the whole family out for a dazzling stroll, hop on the Ferris Wheel for a ride or marvel at the lighted magic of the NightFest. There’s also a dedicated Kids’ Corner, where little ones can take part in gardening and flower workshops, animal encounters and kid-themed shows.

The Kids’ Big Carnival, Perth (October)

Great for kids aged 2-14, the Big Carnival is a colourful, non-stop weekend of rides, shows, farm animals, roving performers and fun workshops. There’s just one entry fee, and once you’re in, all rides are free of charge!

Carols in the Domain, Sydney (December)

Treat your kids to an unforgettable night at Australia’s biggest outdoor Christmas concert! This iconic Aussie event promises food, activities, family friendly pre-show entertainment and some of the biggest names in the country belting out beloved Christmas carols. It’s free, but remember to go early to reserve your picnic spot.
