10 de December de 2014

Get your jingle bells on travellers! Christmas is practically here and if you’re planning to holiday this season, you might just be able to discover some of these amazing Christmas displays around the globe.

Medellín, Colombia

South America never looked more impressive than during the festive season! In Colombia’s second largest city, the famous Festival of Lights is a once-in-a-lifetime Christmas experience. Centred around the streets and river, the city turns into a colourful, artistic light display that will send you into a cool Christmas world.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen is known for its alluring and elaborate Yuletide celebrations where you can view the amazing lights or get your thrills in the amusement park – or both! Nordic Christmas traditions are common here, with wooden houses, quaint shops and Nordic food and drinks to boot.

Madrid, Spain

Christmas in Madrid is nothing short of magnificent as the city comes to life with elaborate light decorations and stunning shop window displays, sets and scenes. Towering buildings are also adorned with beautiful lights and the Christmas markets are worth checking out too. If you’re only here for one night, take a Christmas tour to make the most of it.

Disney World, USA

If you’ve got kids or if you’ve ever just wanted to experience a magical fairy tale Christmas yourself, Disney World is the place for you! Seeping with colour and wonder, the lights here are incredible and the life-size displays and parades of Mickey, Santa, toy soldiers and more will have you grinning non-stop. Of course, seeing the iconic castle lit up with lights is a key highlight.

Johnson City, USA

If you’re in good old Texas during your Christmas break, make sure you head to the centre of the state to Johnson City, in Blanco County. The Lights Spectacular here features dozens of trees and the central courthouse covered in over a million lights – all of which come together to produce a magically breathtaking display.

Canberra, Australia

Few of us 05/know it, but a local dad and barrister in the Aussie capital actually took out the recent Guinness World Record for the largest LED light image display in the world, which he created for the silly season. David Richards’ display features over a million lights and occupies the Canberra CBD with the goal of raising money for charity.

Tokyo, Japan

Illuminating your Christmas in Japan is as easy as pudding-pie, with lots and lots of prefectures all lighting themselves up! One of our favourites this year is the Tokyo Shiodome shopping centre, where you can explore corridors, pillars and lakes of light.

Paris, France

You’ll also find amazing Christmas displays and famous Christmas markets in Paris during the holiday season. Here, gorgeous Christmas trees along the street are adorned with lights, with amazing photo opportunities as you look up towards the Arc de Triomphe. Animated shop window displays and displays in the major department stores are also must-sees.
