Ferrari museum and factory tour, Maranello  and Moderna

Fans of the famous Prancing Horse won’t want to miss the Ferrari Museum, so fortunately there are two to choose from. The Museum and Factory tour in Maranello is the older museum, and has more about Ferrari’s history in Formula 1, including simulators and a pit stop experience. It also includes the opportunity to enter the factory complex on a bus tour. The newer Moderna museum is more focused around the life and work of Enzo Ferrari, and includes many vintage cars he designed.

Lamborghini Production Line Tour, Sant’Agata Bolognese

While the Ferrari museum tour just lets you peek inside the complex, the Lamborghini Factory Tour takes you step by step through the production process, allowing you to see how the cars are made up close. There’s also a museum where you can see many of Lamborghini’s classic cars.

The Lingotto Building, Turin

Formerly the site of the main factory of car manufacturer Fiat, the long, low building in Turin is now a shopping mall, hotel and university complex. But the building still has the famous Fiat Test Track on the roof. The track, which featured in films included The Italian Job (1969), was used to test cars finished in the factory.

Ducati Dream Tour

For fans of vehicles of the two-wheel variety, legendary Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati offers a weekend dream tour. Those lucky enough to experience it pick up a motorcycle at the Ducati Factory and Museum, and then spend three days driving around the hills where the motorcycles were designed. Be sure to check your insurance, though, as some policies may include a larger excess when you drive powerful motorbikes.

Motorsport events

Italy hosts a number of top-tier motorsport events each year which you can perfectly time your trip to take in, including the Formula 1 at Monza and the Italian Motorcycle Grand Prix at the Mugello Circuit. There’s also the quirky Mille Miglia, held in honour of a race that ran between 1927 and 1957. Now it’s an annual vintage car parade held on the race route.

Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi

Normally a state of the art Formula 1 track, once a week the Yas Marina Circuit open the gates for cyclists, runners and walkers alike to train and socialise. If you are looking for one of the most unique cycling experiences, then you can’t get much better than riding around a world class facility in the middle of the desert. With free entry for all, it is a popular meeting place for many cycling clubs.
