History

The history of the temple goes back to 1607 when a young prince of 15 years old met a 14 year old Persian woman, called Mumtaz Mahal. The young prince fell in love with Mumtaz Mahal in the market. However the strict laws of the state forbid the two from seeing each other for 5 years, until the Muslim law had changed.  Thereafter, the couple married in 1612 and enjoyed 19 years of marriage. Sadly, Mumtaz Mahal died following giving birth to their 14th child. Her final wish was to have a tomb built for her. The construction of the tomb commenced in 1632 with completion in 1654.
