Mount Cardrona (kiddies and first timers)

Just an hour’s drive away from Queenstown is Mount Cardrona – a mountain getaway for families. They realise that not everyone can traipse across the mountains with the grace of a polar bear which is why the majority of the 345 hectares is dedicated to the intermediate skier… although you can find me with the kids, awkwardly trying to gather my skis and poles from a not so graceful fall.

Mount Potts (adrenalin junkies)

If you are a seasoned snow bunny looking for the next challenge then Mount Potts needs to be your next pit stop. Now if these mountains are beginning to look familiar then you are too invested in the Lord of The Rings trilogy (not that that was ever a bad thing). Mount Potts played a very crucial role as the location where Peter Jackson filmed most of the film – So you 05/want to keep an eye out for any hobbits buried in the snow.

Mt. Ruapehu

Catering to all levels of skiers, Mt Ruapehu is a popular skiing destination in the North Island. There is a separate learner’s area complete with instructors so beginners can learn in a safe environment. Advanced and intermediate skiers also have separate slopes and for those not interested in skiing – there are separate areas for the more fun activities like tubing!

Treble Cone

Another family friendly resort that allows first time families to learn how to ski or snowboard in groups. With a strong focus on beginners and children, these slopes are usually free of congestion and big ski ego’s

So what are you waiting for? There are so many resorts to choose from and these are just a handful! Remember – none of these have been tried and tested by the InsureandGo team so please review each resort to make sure it suits your personal holiday needs before you leave!
