A category 4/5 storm, Hurricane Dorian, has already hit the Bahamas and is currently travelling towards Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. It is expected to make landfall in Florida sometime on 4th September, and many places that anticipate the hurricane to reach them currently have evacuations underway. This hurricane is very powerful, with extremely strong winds causing flooding and other extensive damage.
This will undoubtedly cause major travel disruptions and safety concerns. This is considered a known event from 3rd of September, 2019 at 12:00am (AEST) and therefore, any claims arising from these events are not covered.
Am I covered for Hurricane Dorian?
If you purchased your policy after 12:00am (AEST) on 3rd September 2019 you are not covered for claims arising from Hurricane Dorian, even if you purchased natural disaster cover as an add on to your policy.
If you purchased your policy before 12:00am (AEST) on 3rd September2019 you are covered for claims arising from Hurricane Dorian, provided that you purchased natural disaster cover as an add on to your policy.
Please note:medical expenses incurred due to natural disasters are automatically covered in all international policies, without having to purchase the natural disaster cover option.
