Backpacking is a unique way to see the world, especially when flexibility and budget are high on the list of travel priorities, and our backpackers travel insurance policy is designed for just such spontaneous and adventurers.
We offer up to 18 months of continuous and comprehensive cover, with the option to cover high-risk activities - like cascading, paragliding, and skydiving. You can return home to Australia (at your own expense) for whatever reason once for up to 14 days, with no need to suspend your policy. Also, our backpackers policy covers up to $15,000 for one-off repayment of your outstanding student loan if you suffer a permanent injury while travelling.
Backpacker policies start from just $54*.
Unfortunately, we do not offer any partial refund on our policies should you return early.
Our standard excess on our Backpacker policies is $150 per item, per claim, per event. This means each and every time your claim is approved, you need pay $150 before we issue payment to you.
You need to be in Australia at the time of purchasing your insurance. If you are overseas, we are unable to offer you new or different insurance. You may be eligible to extend the dates of your existing cover, so shoot us an email and find out.
Under the InsureandGo Silver and Gold levels of cover, we will reimburse the cost of your necessary additional meals and accommodation expenses, if during a trip, any individual leg of your trip, is delayed for more than 12 hours.
The amount you can claim varies depending on the level of cover that you have purchased with us. Please refer to the policy wording documents for more information.
Unfortunately, you will need to pay the entire premium prior to departure in order for your insurance to be valid.
Our premiums would be astronomical if we could do that! There are limits and exclusions to all travel insurance policies, so we strongly advise you to read our product disclosure statement (or search [ctrl+F] for key words to check limits and exclusions) to see if our product is right for you.
