Snow kick-starts ski season in Europe
Skiers and snowboarders thinking of kicking off their winter sports season in Europe can get an early start this year thanks to heavy snowfall in The Alps.
According to The Daily Telegraph, a number of European resorts have seen snowfalls of up to 50cm in the last week, allowing them to open earlier than expected.
The Swiss resort of Saas Fee has already seen snow depths of over 1m on its upper slopes, while Austria’s Kitzbühel resort was able to open on October 24th, setting an 80 year record.
This early snowfall is also proving to be a useful tool in combating the effects of the recession, having prompted a sharp increase in bookings.
A spokeswoman for leading tour operator Crystal commented, ‘There’s been a huge rise in bookings compared to this time last year, when people were more cautious due to the credit crunch. The snow is definitely helping.’
Winter Sports Travel Insurance from InsureandGo can cover holidaymakers taking to the slopes in Europe, or anywhere else in the world.
