New Zealanders named most adventurous travellers

Australian travellers are less adventurous than their New Zealand and Canadian counterparts, News.com.au has reported.

According to research conducted by Intrepid Travel, those from New Zealand are the most carefree when on their travels, being the most willing to try sleeping in a hut or under the stars.

Canadians were ranked second, being the most adventurous when it came to sampling exotic foods such as deep-fried tarantulas, something two-thirds of Australians said they would not consider doing.

However, Australians were said to be more adventurous than travellers from the UK and the US, and were the most likely to have already tried many things, like staying with a local family.

Intrepid Travel spokeswoman, Meg Koffel, commented, “We didn’t expect to see Aussies lagging behind other nationalities in how willing they would be to try new things.

“We have this image of ourselves as travellers who’ll give anything a go, but we’re being outpaced.”
