Exchange rates driving Aussies abroad
More Australians are making the most of the strong Aussie dollar by holidaying overseas, news.com.au has reported.
According to Overseas and Arrivals data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, over 554,400 Australians travelled internationally in February 2010, up 18 per cent from the same period last year.
In particular, Indonesia, the United States and Thailand experienced surges in popularity, welcoming 56 per cent, 33 per cent and 32 per cent more Australians respectively, however New Zealand remained the most popular destination overall.
Colin Bowman, general manager of marketing for Flight Centre, commented, “There have been fares into Bangkok at less than $800 and fares to LA around $1000, which is encouraging people to travel.
“You add on to that the strength of the Australian currency and you get great value at the moment.”
