Western Australia sees tourism boom
Visitor numbers to Western Australia have increased over the past year, while the overall number of international travellers to Australia has declined, The Australian has reported.
Figures from the National Bureau of Statistics for the year ending June show a decrease of 1.4 per cent in the number of international travellers to the whole of Australia, and an increase of 2.1 per cent to Western Australia alone.
The success of the 2008 film ‘Australia’, directed by Baz Luhrman and starring Nicole Kidman, is believed to have contributed to Western Australia’s tourism boom.
Richard Muirhead, Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Western Australia, commented, ‘We have tourism operators telling us they have had a significant increase in demand.’
InsureandGo’s range of comprehensive travel insurance policies can cover Australians for both domestic and overseas travel.
