Australia’s best holiday resorts revealed
UK magazine Condé Nast Traveller has named Australia’s best resorts in its 2009 Readers’ Travel Awards.
According to The Cairns Post, Lizard Island Resort was a favourite with the magazine’s readers, being voted the second best leisure hotel in the Australasia and South Pacific region.
Located on the Great Barrier Reef, Lizard Island Resort is described as ‘an exclusive and remote private paradise’, and boasts 24 white sandy beaches.
Other Australian resorts that appeared in the top 20 include Lilianfels Blue Mountains in New South Wales, The Observatory Hotel in Sydney, and Bedarra Island Resort on the Great Barrier Reef.
However, it was New Zealand’s Blanket Bay, a luxury lodge on the edge of Lake Wakatipu, that earned the top spot.
